Charles first attended school at the Cattle Staion School at Modewarre. His family moved in t he de-licensed Kardinia Hotel at Highton. he then attended Flinders school.
Charles' father purchased first farm for him and told him he would get no more help. Charle s improved the farm and sold it for a profit. He moved to Melbourne and lived in Ascot Vale w ith his wife Katherine Welsh, and three children: Laurie, Eric and Joyce. He went into an eng ineering factory with a partner (unknown). The factory wasn't doing all that well, so he chan ged the name to Cleveland Engineering.
